An act of valor in a time of chemical & biological warfare, this soldier risks his own life to save a child.

My husband posed as reference for this one, and it is to him that I dedicate this piece. Love ya, sweetie.

Thank you so much! This one took... forever. But I was determined to get it right. Probably 50+ hours on it, I think. It's great to hear that it was time well spent. :)
He looks like he is about to burst out crying... The childs hand seems a bit disjointed, perhpas there should be a little wrist fading into the smoke. Another wonderful piece. Is this what your husband looks like, or was he just the body model?

you don't need a soldier to save life
I wouldn't dream of inferring that you do need a soldier to save someone's life. The most simple, most wonderful good deeds come from the common man or woman that you would meet on the street. In THIS piece, however, that is what is happening. Please don't misread my intent. Thanks for the comment, though. :)
Hmm, a few people have mentioned that about the hand. That stinks. Unfortunately, my references for the child weren't nearly as good as those from my hubby (who's photo I could take and retake until I got what I needed). So glad you liked it, though :)

This is exactly what my hubby looks like, yep. Well, providing I managed a good likeness,... which I personally think I did. :)
The eyes show well as being affected by the gas and the expression of holding his breath is good too.
The hand on the shoulder is a bit spiderish but doesn't detract from the overall piece at all.

scary level of detail, the foreground almost looks like a superimposed photo, gonna be staring at this for a good while.
that's really good... ^_^
