This is the start of a series which will likely be slow in coming. There will be one painting for each of the planets in our solar system (and probably even some of the bigger or more popular moons, as well). This woman "represents" Mercury, and is depicted on that planet's landscape. I've combined information from lots of different sources to come up with how to represent "Mercury" as a woman. Here's some of that information:
* god of travel and thievery
* god often represented with winged shoes or helm
* closest to sun
* given name because of moving so quickly across sky
* temperature is very unstable
* sun rise huge (with stars, too) - very odd celestial events
* heavily cratered, very old
* very thin/non-existent atmosphere
This painting took me forever to finish. By that, I mean that most of this painting was completed a year or two ago - then more recently I just finally came and finished it. So, in some ways, it looks like something I would have painted a few years ago... since I did.
